What originally was supposed to be a middleweight match turned into a catchweight bout after Johnson came in 11 pounds overweight at the weigh ins.
Johnson started the fight like a horse charging out the gate, attacking Belfort with striking and then a takedown. Despite Johnson’s quick onslaught, Belfort was able to come back and lock in a rear naked choke before the end of the first round.
One thing I enjoyed about this match was how the Brazilian crowd sang in support of Belfort.
